Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)  would like to invite you to participate in a Missing Maps event on Monday, December 5th from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Centre St. Pierre in Montréal.

Founded by Doctors Without Borders, the Red Cross and the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team, Missing Maps is powered by volunteers around the world and in your community who map far off places to aid in humanitarian activities.

Missing Maps' mandate is to map the most vulnerable places in the developing world, in order that international and local NGOs and individuals can use the maps and data to better respond to crises affecting the areas. Using the OpenStreetMap platform ensures all data gathered under the project will be free, open and available for use under an open licence.

Both beginners and experienced mappers are welcome to join this mapathon.

Mapping process:

Step 1: Remote volunteers trace satellite imagery into OpenStreetMap

Step 2: Community volunteers add local details such as neighbourhoods, street names and evacuation centres

Step 3: Humanitarian organizations use mapped information to plan risk reduction and disaster response activities that save lives.

*Bring your laptop (and a mouse if you have one) and join MSF Canada for a fun, engaging evening that directly contributes to our humanitarian work overseas!
